(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to end their season-long eight-game road trip on a positive note, as they visit the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center tonight.
The Flyers are 3-4-0 on the swing so far and have dropped three straight contests. They were slammed Sunday afternoon in Ottawa, as the Senators rolled to a 6-1 victory behind two goals and an assist from Dany Heatley.
R.J. Umberger netted the lone goal for Philadelphia, which had won three straight before this current slide.
Antero Niittymaki allowed six goals on 43 shots in his first game since December 27. The Finnish goaltender had been sidelined with a hip injury. Niittymaki has now been on the losing end in 11 straight games and hasn't won since November 30 against the Islanders.
In other injury news, Philadelphia captain Peter Forsberg skated Monday and could be available for tonight's contest.
The Flyers, who are 8-16-0 as the visitor this season, begin a three-game homestand Thursday against Montreal.
The Capitals will wrap up a four-game homestand tonight and are coming off back-to-back wins in the residency.
The latest triumph came in dramatic fashion Saturday against the Atlanta Thrashers. Alexander Semin scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, as Washington outlasted Atlanta, 3-2.
