(Sports Network) - Last week some had to wonder if the Philadelphia Flyers had finally pieced some respectability together. Back-to-back victories over Anaheim and Los Angeles produced the team's first winning streak of the season.
Fast forward a few days and the team is on its fourth losing streak of still relatively young campaign. Since the mini-spurt, the Flyers have lost to San Jose and Pittsburgh.
On Monday, Philly returned home from a four-game trek and fell, 5-3, to the Penguins at the Wachovia Center. Ryan Whitney had a goal and two assists as the Pens continued their dominance over their intrastate rivals.
Pittsburgh has defeated Philadelphia in the first four meetings this season, winning by a combined 20-7 margin.
Antero Niittymaki allowed five goals on 34 shots while Simon Gagne, Geoff Sanderson and Freddy Meyer tallied the goals for the Flyers.
The Flyers dropped to 0-12-1 this season when allowing the first goal of the game.
