(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to string together consecutive wins for just the fourth time this season when they visit the New York Islanders tonight at Nassau Coliseum.
The Flyers won back-to-back contests on two occasions (November 15-16 & 24-25) and had a season-high three-game winning streak from December 28-January 2.
Philadelphia is coming off Saturday's win in Atlanta after dropping its previous two games after regulation. The Flyers earned the 5-2 triumph over the Thrashers by scoring four unanswered goals in the third period.
Dmitry Afanasenkov had a goal and an assist and Mike York tallied the game- winner for the Flyers. Philly has an NHL-low 33 points, but is 3-0 against the Southeast Division-leading Thrashers this year.
Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Alexei Zhitnik also scored while goaltender Antero Niittymaki came up huge in relief of Robert Esche, making 32 saves for the Flyers.
Esche started the game for Philadelphia but left early in the first period with a neck injury after giving up a goal to Ilya Kovalchuk. He is not expected to dress for tonight's game, so Niittymaki will get the start and Mike Leighton will be the backup netminder
The Flyers have now picked up points in their last four games (2-0-2).
Tonight marks the end of a two-game trip for Philadelphia, which is 10-17-1 as the visiting club.
The Islanders are coming off a three-game road trip and were handed a loss in Sunday's finale at Washington. Alexander Semin scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Caps edged New York, 2-1, at the Verizon Center.
