PHILADELPHIA (CP) - Hitch is staying put.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed coach Ken Hitchcock to a new three-year contract on Monday, officially bringing an end to a busy off-season for general manager Bob Clarke.

In the past week alone, the Flyers have signed winger Simon Gagne to a new five-year deal, watched captain Keith Primeau retire with concussion problems and extended an offer sheet to Ryan Kesler that was matched by the Vancouver Canucks.

Clarke had been hoping to get a deal with Hitchcock done sooner, but was too busy dealing with those moves.

"I think it's the final piece of stability we were hoping to have at the start of training camp," he said in a statement. "Actually, it was my own fault, because it took me longer to sign a couple players."
