So here's my cap calculation for players currently under contract:

Jarome Iginla RW 7 Mil
Jay Bouwmeester D 6.68 Mil
Dion Phaneuf D 6.5 Mil
Olli Jokinen C 5.25 Mil
Daymond Langkow C 4.5 Mil
Robyn Regehr D 4.02 Mil
Cory Sarich D 3.6 Mil
Wayne Primeau C 1.4 Mil
Rene Bourque LW 1.35 Mil
David Moss LW 1.3 Mil
Curtis Glencross LW 1.2 Mil
Craig Conroy C 1.05 Mil
Mark Giordano D 0.891667 Mil
Eric Nystrom LW 0.6875 Mil
Kyle Greentree LW 0.65 Mil
Brandon Prust C 0.5 Mil

Miikka Kiprusoff G 5.833333 Mil
Curtis McElhinney G 0.535 Mil

Total players signed: 18 (5 defencemen, 11 forwards, 2 Goalies)
Payroll: 52.9475 Mil Cap breathing room: 4.325 Mil

Dustin Boyd's an RFA and expected to signed and Adam Pardy has apperantly signed but the terms haven't yet been made public.

It'll be a very interesting season, the defence core is very good if not the best in the league. I'd expect Regehr, Sarich, Phaneuf, and Bouwmeester to log most of the minutes. There isn't so much of a high caliber offence this year, but there still is a lot of potential. It's starting to look like they're going back to the old defencive style of Flames hockey.

Daryls done a lot of work, as a result Brent will have a good roster to work with.

We aren't the only ones who think they'll have a standout defence next season.
Team Canada's brass thinks so too after inviting three Flames defenceman - the most from any NHL team - to the summer orientation camp Aug. 24-27 in Calgary.

I wonder if he's going to bring cocaine into the dressing room in a big way, much like he did in Ottawa.
Yea, I can see it already. Just like Andrie Roy who did it with the sens aswell and I really wouldn't be surprised if he introduced the team to coke last year judging by the way they flopped.

Flames sign d-man Kronwall

Kronwall, a native of Jarfalla, Sweden, has over 50 games of NHL experience split between Washington and Toronto. Kronwall was originally drafted by Toronto in the 9th round (285th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Wow, I don't know about this one but I guess we should trust Sutters move.

Kronwall is a strong skater and, and big players but his major issue is that he does not use his size well, both in hitting and in shooting. In Kronwall you have a strong defence first defencemen but don't let his size fool you he might as well be 5'10"

I have a feeling this is Anders Ericson's replacement. It hasn't been mentiioned yet, but I'd bet he's signed on a 2-way contract and that he'll play most of the year in Abbotsford along with Pelech and Negrin.

Nigel Dawes To Flames; Waiver Claim

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=284809

Nigel Dawes' brief stay in Phoenix has come to an end.

The 24-year old was claimed off of waivers by the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Dawes, who is a restricted free agent, was one of 20 players that filed for salary arbitration earlier this month. He was reportedly looking for a one-way deal for less than $1 million, but was instead put on waivers by the Coyotes.

His arbitration case with the Flames will be heard next Wednesday, if the Flames don't sign him before then.

Dawes has some history with Flames coach Brent Sutter, who he played for at the World Juniors.

Phoenix acquired Dawes, as well as Dmitri Kalinin and Petr Prucha, for Derek Morris at the trade deadline.

In 64 combined games with the New York Rangers and the Coyotes, Dawes scored 10 goals and 11 assists.
Very good in a checking role and has offensive upside. Great pickup.

Flames Acquire Keith Seabrook; Trade With Washington

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=284891

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington Capitals have traded defeceman Keith Seabrook to the Calgary Flames for future considerations.

Seabrook was taken by Washington in the second round of the 2006 NHL entry draft.

He played with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen the last two seasons.
He's the younger brother of Chicago's Brent Seabrook. He has a lot of offensive upside. Great passer and and can quarterback a powerplay. Since he thinks offense first, he's caught out of position from time to time, but he has improved in his time with the Hitmen, while being coached by current Flames Associate Coach, Dave Lowry.

He likely won't make the team this year, but definitely a good pickup for the future.
