More than seven months since Erik Cole broke his neck, he's still feeling the effects.

The Carolina Hurricanes forward played only eight minutes of Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Washington Capitals after a first-period collision sent him to the locker room for more than half the game.

Capitals forward Richard Zednik caught Cole at the blue line with a hip check and as Cole spun out of the hit, Capitals defenseman Shaone Morrisonn and an off-balance Cole backed into each other.

Cole exited the ice slowly and played two more shifts before heading to the locker room. He returned late in the second period and took a regular shift in the third period.
