Fighting in hockey. Yay or nay?

I know this has been debated to death in any hockey discussions, but i'd like to know your opinion about it.

Should fighting be banned from hockey, just like every other professional team sports out there, or do you think those who think it should, should get off their "high horse" and chill out just a *little*?

So the question. Does fighting still have it's place in hockey?

Fighting

I say keep it in the game. if you take it out you are going to have alot of players being injured because of high sticks.the players have the right to police themselves like they have had for years.
If they ever did take it out it would turn my stomach.they are trying to turn the league into a european style league and it stinks. give me old fashion north american hockey any day.
They need to keep fighting in the league!! It gets the rest of the team going, it gets the crowd going, and it keeps the opponent on their heels!! The players need to watch each others backs out there!!

Isn't it funny how all the fighting debates happened after Gretzky leaves the game, I wonder how he would have made out if there was no fighting when he played, probably not to well!!

The instigator rule should go as well!!
Take away the fights and they will lose this fan!
I think fights are as much a part of hockey, as triple overtime nail biters in the playoffs.

Of every fight i've seen in sold out arenas while there, I don't think i've ever seen someone not standing cheering or applauding after a nice scrap.

That said, anyone actually wish we had the goon era back, or do you prefer the reduced fighting(with the new breed of enforcers who actually can skate and score)and just don't want it gone?
I guess I'm odd fan out here. I grew up with the Broad Street Bullies out of Philly, and I always hated the fighting and blood. I love HOCKEY--if I wanted fights, I'd watch boxing or martial arts stuff. I love the pure skating, the fluidity, the accuracy required...not who can beat the hell out of whom. Guess that's why the Penguins are my favorite team, with the Caps second-- Both teams have that smooth, pretty run 'n' gun style---and why I hate the Flyers even today.

I don't want to see a fight every five minutes, because that would take away from the game, but there is a place for it in the game, example, the last game by the Senators, after the fight the whole team picked up, then look what they did!! 8-1 over New Jersey, and the last time that happened to New Jersey was in 1993!!

Plus, I have never liked the Flyers!!
I agree with those saying the nhl shouldn't revolve around fighting, but also, I don't think completely eliminating it from the game would be a good idea either. That said, i'm glad the 400+ penalty minutes a season era, is gone.

Just curious. Would anyone's opinion on fighting change should there be a death or serious injury(i.e lenghty coma) resulting from a fight in any hockey leagues(Not necesarily in professional leagues)?
it shouldnt be banned, players should know when there is a good reason and when there is not. sometimes its ok to drop the gloves but they shouldnt been goons about it.

Fighting in moderation. just my thought. they had something about this in the hockey news for this weeks paper, i encourage all of you to pick it up .. good read.
Fighting is one of the best parts of a hockey game. It really gets the crowd going, and it is big momentum to a home team in the playoffs.
Fighting should not be banned. It's a part of hockey. What I don't want to see is a fight breaking out every 10 or 15 minutes because it would make the game boring. Once in every two or three matches would be better.

Maybe just a few opinions would change about fighting. I think a lot of people would think "this is the first time someone has died in a fight, I doubt it will happen again"
But the NHL could also change the rules.
Although this has nothing to do with hockey there was a car accident 3 years ago and 3 girls from my old school died because of the bad weather conditions. The school board should have cancelled the buses so no one would go to school and it could have been avoided. But now when the weather isn't that bad the school is cancelled. It took something soo horrible to happen for them to take action.
Maybe if someone was to die or the lengthy coma(lets hope this never happens) the NHL won't allow it?and have the same reaction to a death as the school board did? But I don't see it becomming non exsistant.

To answer the question though I am "yay" for fighting. Seeing it happen so often especially in one game isn't exciting though. Plus fighting is something a lot of people remember in the game, like most recently the Tucker and Eaves fight. Or the Iginla-Lecavalier fight in the cup finals.

Fighting is part of the game and I know a lot of people who would realy hate it if fighting was banned. It's a crowd starter and the game wouldn't be the same without it. I'm all for fighting every once in a while.:)

Same here.
As long as you don't bring back the Broad street bully years, i'll be happy with the state of fighting in hockey.

As much as I like the odd dust up, I feel too much of it just ends up ruining the game. At least, that's my opinion.
I'm not a fan and don't see any real reason for it to be in there. Do NFL players and fans have a hard time getting hyped up? No? Then that means that fighting is unessesary.

At the same time I don't change the channel just because someone is fighting, if she's around my g/f will do that for me.
Fighting

Fighting has been a part of the game for a long time. if its taken out of the game there will be more injuries to the players.i needs to stay. remmber this is north american hockey not europe.
Fighting has got to stay in the game. It is one of the most exciting elements of the game. I love to see the drop the gloves and go.
Yay!

And I also want the Instigator removed. Too many players are getting away with cowardly acts out there, and the NHL sure doesn't do enough to stop it, until it goes too far... again and again, and it's in the media.

Then, suddenly it's yet another "crackdown".
I love to watch a good donnybrook, in fact I would like to see bench clearing brawls come back! :D
