(Sports Network) - While a four-point lead in the Southeast Division means next to nothing in October, it's still not a bad thing to have.

It's exactly the position the Atlanta Thrashers are in, as they sit atop the group. They have won two straight since suffering their first loss of the season, sweeping a pair of games against the Washington Capitals.

On Thursday, Vyacheslav Kozlov's shootout goal lifted Atlanta past Washington, 4-3, at Philips Arena. Marian Hossa also scored in the shootout while Kari Lehtonen stopped each skater he faced and ended things by stoning Alexander Ovechkin.

Hossa finished with two goals for the Thrashers, who have won four of their past five games overall. Kozlov also lit the lamp in regulation for Atlanta and Lehtonen stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced.

Ilya Kovalchuk pitched in with two assists, increasing his team-leading total to six this season. The Russian star has only one goal so far, and it was the game-winner in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win versus the Caps in Washington.
