The U.S. Division leading Tri-City Americans proved to be too much for the Silvertips Friday night defeating Everett 4-1. Shane Harper took home his 20th goal of the year on the breakaway in the second period giving the Valencia, CA native 44 points on the season (20G, 24A). Mike Alexander assist on the play was his 11th of the year. Thomas Heemskerk made 33 saves on 36 shots in the loss moving his record to 3-5-0-0 in Everett and 10-11-2-2 overall on the season. Friday's loss moves Everett's record to 2-4 against the Americans this season.
This brings the 'Tips record to 21-20-5-0 with 47 points in 46 games played standing 13 points behind second place Spokane Chiefs in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 4-5-0-1 in their last 10 games. Everett continues their busy weekend heading north on Saturday night for a 7:05 start against the Western Conference leading Vancouver Giants, and finally wrapping up their weekend heading back to Tri-City on Sunday night.
Tri-City started off the scoring Friday night with a bit of luck on their side. At 4 minutes and 41 seconds of the first period a Brooks Masik centering pass from the left corner of the zone banked off an Everett defenders skate and past Heemskerk for the quick 1-0 lead. The Americans would increase their lead to 2-0 toward the end of the first period when Brendan Shinnimin streaked down the left wing side and unleashed a wrist shot that beat Heemskerk glove side underneath the crossbar.
The Silvertips started to climb back into the game in the second period when Harper beat Chet Pickard with a great, soft backhand shot five-hole. An Alexander pass would set up the breakaway and bring the 'Tips within one.
Tyler Procyschen would put a stop to Everett's comeback with a one-timer off a feed from Justin Feser, slamming the puck past Heemskerk at 5:15 of the third period. The Americans would add to their 3-1 lead scoring an empty net goal at 18:08 by Johnny Lazo to secure a 4-1 win over Everett.
