The SPHL today concluded its two day winter meetings in Knoxville, TN with the league's Board of Governors main focus being on the economy and its effect on revenues. Expansion, playoff dates, number of games for the 2009-2010 season, officiating and league summer meeting dates were also discussed.

Highlights of the meetings include:

-The league will return to a 56 game regular season format with 28 home and away games for the 2009-10 season.

-Discussions were held on expansion with Commissioner Combs stating that his office is reviewing several cities and ownership groups for the 2009-10 season. No locations for expansion will be made public and all final decisions on expansion will be made at the league summer meetings.

-The SPHL annual summer meeting will be in June 13-15, 2009 in Huntsville, AL.

"Our team owners, like all responsible business people, are concerned with the economy and have come together to find ways to ensure the financial stability of members teams and the league without increasing the cost or decreasing the excitement to their fans," stated Jim Combs, SPHL Commissioner. "Some great suggestions and ideas came out of our sessions and we are excited about the future of the SPHL."
