(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils will try to close out their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series this afternoon, when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum for Game 6 of the best-of-seven set.

The Devils grabbed a three games to two edge in this series with Friday's win at the Meadowlands. Martin Brodeur made 31 saves to lead New Jersey to the big 3-0 triumph in Game 5.

Brodeur was subpar in the first four games of the series as he entered Game 5 with a 2.87 goals-against average. However, on Friday he found his playoff form to post his 22nd career postseason shutout and move the Devils within a game of reaching the conference semifinals.

Scott Gomez had a goal and two assists while Brian Gionta and Andy Greene each lit the lamp for New Jersey.

Gomez is leading the Devils in scoring this series with two goals and five assists. The 27-year-old Anchorage, Alaska native has 58 points (19 goals, 39 assists) in 91 career playoff games.

The Devils are trying to reach the second round of the postseason for the second straight year and for the third time in four postseason appearances. New Jersey swept the New York Rangers in the conference quarterfinals last year, but then it lost to eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina in the semis.
