(Sports Network) - It was only one game and the Devils won it by just one goal, but that doesn't make it meaningless.

New Jersey hosted the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night in a battle between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference and the Devils came out on top. Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner each had a goal and an assist to help the Devils earn the 3-2 victory at Continental Airlines Arena.

The Devils, who lead the Atlantic Division with 70 points, are now just four away from Buffalo for the top spot in the conference.

John Madden scored the other goal and Martin Brodeur stopped 15 shots for the Devils.

New Jersey specializes in frustrating the opposing team's offense and that's just what it did against the Sabres, who lead the NHL with 202 goals this season.

"Defensively you can't ask for a better game than that," said Brodeur. "We didn't have any crucial turnovers and that is key against a team that is known for its offensive prowess."
