Discussion Starter #1 – Two goals from Nicklas Bergfors proved enough for the Devils to top the Flyers 3-1 at Wachovia Center on Monday.

Martin Brodeur made his first start of the preseason, stopping all eight shots he faced in the first period. Frank Doyle started the second and finished the game with nine saves on 10 Philadelphia shots.

After Bergfors had opened the scoring with his first of the preseason at 7:50 of the first period, the Devils held a 1-0 lead until Rod Pelley added a goal at 7:31 of the third.

Daniel Briere cut the margin to 2-1 just 19 seconds later, but Bergfors, the Devils' first pick in the 2005 Entry Draft, sealed the victory with an empty-net goal

Defensemen Andy Greene (1g-2a), Karel Rachunek (1g-2a) and Johnny Oduya (3a) each recorded an assist in the contest.

The Devils (2-2-0) conclude the preseason with a pair against the Islanders: Wednesday in Lowell, Mass., and Saturday in Bridgeport, Conn. Both starts are scheduled for 7 p.m.
