PLYMOUTH, Mich. (CP) - Daniel Ryder scored twice and added two assists as the Plymouth Whalers beat the Saginaw Spirit 6-3 in OHL action Monday afternoon.
Ryder, acquired at last week's trade deadline from Peterborough, broke a 3-3 tie at 6:55 of the third when his slapshot from the blue-line beat Spirit netminder Marc-Andre Perron. He also added an empty-net goal with six seconds remaining.
"I wasn't really trying to score," Ryder said of the winner. "I had some good chances in the first but couldn't finish them. I was just trying to take a hard shot and see what happened."
Dan Collins added two goals for Plymouth (29-11-1-2), who moved seven points ahead of Saginaw (26-15-0-2) in the West Division. The Whalers have won five of the seven head-to-head matchups with the Spirit this season.
