Dallas/Minnesota history fact.
North Stars player Bill Masterton fell and hit his head off the ice at a game on Jan 13, 1968, never regaining consciousness and dying. To this day he remains the only player ever to die as a result of an injury suffered during on ice play.
The Bill Masterton Trophy was named after him and is awarded to the player who best shows perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
The Stars retired his jersey in his memory and following his death, the Stars lost the next six games they played.
May he R.I.P.
