New York, NY (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby leads all Eastern Conference All-Star vote-getters in the latest voting update released by the NHL on Tuesday.

Crosby has received 247,854 votes through Monday, while his teammate Evgeni Malkin is the second leading vote-getter among forwards with a distant 156,469. Washington center and reigning Calder Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin rounds out the top three forward spots with 112,501 votes.

The Sabres' Daniel Briere trails Ovechkin by less than 2,000 votes and is in fourth among forwards while fellow Sabre Maxim Afinogenov is fifth.

Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury leads all goaltenders with 138,151 votes, ahead of Buffalo's Ryan Miller and his 123,224 votes.

Toronto's Bryan McCabe leads all defenseman in votes and is second overall with 174,205. In second is Florida's Jay Bouwmeester with 132,570 votes. Brian Campbell of Buffalo and Boston's Zdeno Chara are third and fourth among defenders, respectively.

This is the problem with fan voting. Not Crosby (even though he's not what I'd call a favourite), but McCabe.

What did he do this year to be a defenceman, other than get points? He's a mess in the defencive zone, and that will kill the East.

Unfortunately, that's just the way it's going ot have to be. That Kaberle, the better d-man, isn't ahead of him in fan voting is a testament to the problem it has become.
