(Sports Network) - The Phoenix Coyotes have improved slightly since they sleepwalked through October, but it hasn't been enough to get them out of the basement.

The Coyotes were just 3-9-0 in the first month of the season and have followed that up with a 4-5-0 mark in November. The bad start has Wayne Gretzky's club dead last in the Pacific Division with just 14 points.

Phoenix had a reason to be hopeful on Wednesday night, when it earned a 3-1 victory over the visiting New Jersey Devils. Dave Scatchard scored the go- ahead goal and added an assist to spark the Coyotes to the win. Derek Morris and Owen Nolan also scored while Curtis Joseph stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced.
