Jared Cowen, the first overall selection in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, will make his Chiefs debut this weekend when he plays in a home-and-home series with the Tri-City Americans.
"I'm looking forward to seeing Jared again," Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters said. "I've only had the chance to see him twice; once in Saskatoon last summer where I was impressed with him as a person and again at camp this fall where I was impressed with him as a player. I'm looking forward to seeing his growth as a player."
Cowen signed a contract to play with the Chiefs earlier this month. Burke Gallimore and Justin Bertow, the Chiefs second and third round selections, respectively, in the same draft had signed with the Chiefs earlier.
The 6'5", 190 pound defenseman has one goal, 15 points and 73 penalty minutes with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. Last season, in 41 regular season games, Cowen scored four goals, 16 points and added 66 penalty minutes.
Adam Hobson (2002), Drayson Bowman (2004) and Mitch Wahl (2005), all former first round selections by the Chiefs, appeared in games as 15-year-olds.
