(Sports Network) - Erik Cole missed all but two games of the Carolina Hurricanes' Stanley Cup run last spring. The exceptions were Games 6 and 7 against Edmonton.

He, of course, was off the ice for months after he was slammed into the boards viciously by Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik. Before the injury he was on fire, checking in with 30 goals in 60 games.

This season he is back, but not 100 percent. According to the News and Observer in Raleigh, the gritty forward feels more pain in his neck than he did during the Finals. But that hasn't stopped him from netting a 10 goals and 15 assists in 27 games for the reigning champs.

On Thursday, Cole's two goals led the Hurricanes, as they doubled up the Canadiens, 4-2 at RBC Center. Justin Williams and Eric Belanger provided the other two goals in the win, and Cam Ward made 25 saves to post the decision in net.
