(Sports Network) - Now that the Philadelphia Flyers have snapped their franchise-record losing streak, they will try to post consecutive wins for the first time in over a month, as the Carolina Hurricanes host a New Year's Eve battle at the RBC Center.

The Flyers halted their record-breaking skid at 10 games with Thursday's victory in Tampa. Simon Gagne scored twice and Robert Esche made a career-high 42 saves, as Philly posted a 4-3 decision over the Lightning at St. Pete Times Forum.

Esche was making his first start since November 15 because of a groin injury. His return was timely, as Antero Niittymaki did not suit up because of a slight hip strain. Niittymaki reinjured the hip at practice over the weekend and Esche is expected to start again tonight.

Sami Kapanen and Alexei Zhitnik also scored while Peter Forsberg had three assists for the Flyers, who earned their first win since November 30 against the New York Islanders.

Philly hasn't earned wins in back-to-back games since beating Columbus and Montreal on November 24 & 25.

Tonight is the third step in a season-long eight-game road trip for the Flyers, who are 6-13-0 as the visitor this year.

The Hurricanes are also coming off a victory, having beat visiting Anaheim on Friday. Rod Brind'Amour scored the game-tying goal and added an assist on a night named in his honor, as Carolina defeated the Ducks, 4-2.
