New Canadiens coach owns best record among all first-year coaches
MONTREAL – The early reports cards are in and first-year coaches in the NHL don’t come any better than Guy Carbonneau. Just past the one-quarter mark of the 2006-07 schedule, no new coach has graded higher than Carbonneau this season.
Among the eight coaches to have made their debut behind a new bench to start the season, Carbonneau is the leader of the pack with a 14-6-3 mark and a .673 winning percentage in 23 games. Carbo’s next closest rival is Ted Nolan, who has drawn rave reviews of his own on Long Island.
