The Canadiens have reason to be thankful today.
The team opened the season on the road and came home with three of a possible four points after beating their archrivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night.
It was the first National Hockey League win for rookie head coach Guy Carbonneau and the comeback effort took some of the sting out of Friday's 5-4 shootout loss in Buffalo.
The Canadiens squandered a two-goal lead in the final five minutes of regulation time in that game, but the Habs came back to force extra time Saturday when former Leaf Mike Johnson tied the game at 6:44 of the third period.
