The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for minor-league defenseman Joseph Sova and a fourth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Interesting move by Lou. They do need some size up front and he's an upgrade over most of what's played in the bottom six. They didn't really give up much of value, so even if it doesn't work out it's not a bad deal.

Doesn't seem like a big move but I've watched Poni in Toronto and if he can regain that form you may have urselves a 50 point guy right there. Like MadDevil said if it doesn't work out well ... Not much going back to the Canes.

Solid deal for the Devils. Don't think it's a move based around Ponikarovsky regaining his 2008 form, but rather so they can get some size and physical play on the third line instead of playing Tedenby in that role - let the kid develop in an offensive role in the AHL.

On the other hand, also a good deal for the Hurricanes. Trading an offensively underperforming Ponikarovsky for futures (albeit, low-value futures) is a solid move for a team that's tied for fourth last in the NHL and has played the most games so far this season outside of Ottawa. No shortage of assets to move, only question is which pending UFA is next? Ruutu, Gleason, Spacek or Allen?

Poni seems to play hard at times, but has struggled to fine that 2008 form. If he can contribute, its a good move, if not, well not to much was expended and not a big cap hit.
