The Washington Capitals announced Friday that the team has re-signed goaltender Brent Johnson to a two-year contract extension worth $US1.625 million.

Johnson, 29, has played in 12 games this year, his second season with the Capitals, and has a 4-5-3 record in backing up Olaf Kolzig. He is sporting a 3.50 goals-against average and has a .893 save percentage.

Johnson was claimed off waivers from Vancouver Oct. 4, 2005, and played 26 games for the Capitals in 2005-06.

He finished at 9-12-1, including a 4-1-1 record in his last six starts, with a 1.78 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage in that time.
