The Vancouver Canucks hope to make up for Friday's disappointing home opener tonight when they host the Edmonton Oilers at GM Place.

The Canucks left top scorers Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo off the scoresheet in a 6-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks, but were unable to contain a supporting cast that included forwards Curtis Brown, Milan Michalek, Mike Grier and Ville Nieminen.

"I think that was probably our worst effort of the season," said captain Markus Naslund.

Edmonton is coming off a 4-3 victory over Colorado on Saturday. Goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 39 saves en route to earning his 100th career win. Ryan Smyth also came up big, scoring the tying goal late in the second period and go-ahead tally early in the third.

If the Canucks had trouble handling the Sharks' four lines, the team will also have its hands full with an Oilers offence that is just as deep. Winger Petr Sykora, signed as a free agent over the summer, shares the team lead in scoring with four goals and seven points. Smyth leads the Oilers in goals with five, including a natural hat trick in a 6-4 win over San Jose on Thursday.
