(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders continue their current homestand tonight when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders have checked off three portions of the current seven-game set. The club is 1-0-2 on the set so far, losing the last two games -- one via shootout and one in overtime.
On Thursday. Ted Nolan's club dropped a 4-3 OT tilt to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Sergei Gonchar scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
With the score deadlocked at three, New York's Alexei Yashin got called for a hooking penalty 1:34 into overtime. Gonchar then fired a slap shot just inside the right post on the power play 3:33 into the overtime period for the game- winner.
Yashin, Mike Sillinger and Jason Blake scored for the Islanders. Yashin added a pair of assists in defeat.
Mike Dunham finished with 32 saves for the Islanders, as he made his third straight start in place of Rick DiPietro. DiPietro remains day-to-day with a groin injury. He did dress on Thursday but sat the bench.
The Isles will host Buffalo on Thursday.
Carolina had a three-game winning streak come to an end after Friday's 5-4 loss against the upstart Buffalo Sabres.
