RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Hurricanes set a franchise record by scoring three goals in 43 seconds during the first period against Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
The scores by Eric Staal, Kevyn Adams and Erik Cole midway through the period beat the previous record of 63 seconds set by the then-Hartford Whalers against Toronto in January 1987.
On the first goal, Staal took a pass along the boards from Justin Williams and beat Marc Denis from the right faceoff circle for a power-play score at 8:23 of the period.
