No, the preliminary round is relatively meaningless. Every team advances past it. Winning unimportant games don't matter, especially when you fail to win the games that are important.

No, the preliminary round is relatively meaningless. Every team advances past it. Winning unimportant games don't matter, especially when you fail to win the games that are important.

Good for you, you played well and won a game that didn't affect anything. Whereas Canada played well and sent the USA home with 2nd place.

While up here in Canada our Hockey team wins gold enough. We don't feel the need to Call it a miracle. A beer and the next days newscast replays suffices.

Our Nation Sport would actually be Lacrosse. However in 1994 bill c-212 officially declared Hockey as our national sport. Until it was amenended to recognize both sports. In layman's terms LaCrosse is the national sport because of history and Hockey his our national sport because of a history of kicking everyone's Ass.

I'm not sure you understand the significance of that win for our country. The U.S.A was in bad economic times and they rallied around this team of college kids who just seemed to be beating everyone, and then when they beat Russia, a team of men who were "amateurs" when the reality is they were the cream of the crop from the country. Then when we beat them it really was a miracle. How isn't it? If you beat them in the 80 olympics it would have been too. That was by far the most dominant team in the world at that time.

And Canada proved they were the best team this year. But don't rip on America for achieving something great, that you actually didn't do. from 56 to 92 during the soviet unions run. The U.S.A was the only team to beat them. Not only in 80 but in 60 as well. So you can make fun of America all you want, but we were the only country to beat them during there run.

Not trying to sound jerkish...but....IOWA doesn't seem to be a hot spot for what you'd call the "IT" in professional sports. Outside of things like USHL and so forth in Hockey. I can't recollect weather Iowa currently has a professional team in ither the NHL,MLB,NFL or NBA.
Outside of the Iowa energy. The feeders for the Bulls and the Suns in the NBA. It would be like the NHL farm teams in the AHL....Marlies to Maple leafs, Bulldogs to Habs ect.
However NCAA and college teams Iowa is pretty strapped on that.
