In The Spotlight

G Martin Brodeur

The all-time great is Canada's best bet in net. He's participated in past Olympics and seems to always bring his game to the next level when he's playing for Canada, as evidenced by him being Canada's best player in the 2006 Olympics. He's got a sparkling .920SV% and a 2.15GAA this NHL season.

D Scott Niedermayer

Niedermayer's struggling this season, but after being named Captain of Team Canada, he'll have to step it up. His play will be crucial to puck movement and on the powerplay, expect him to play as a rover, like he does in Anaheim.

C Sidney Crosby

The other generational talent in the Olympics have each other. Sidney Crosby has a backing group of some elite talent. He'll be expected to center the first line and get plenty of powerplay time. These will be his first Olympics and he might be looking to prove something.

I'm disappointed They didn't take green, with all the problems we had scoring in 2006 green should have been on this team.
after watching these last two games I think Stevie might regret not taking Green.
barley defeat the swiss (neutral)
spanked by USA (don't care about hockey)
canada sucks bad (inferiority complex)
:cry
Go away and comb your neon spiky hair, we don't need Trolls around these parts.

Funny how people jump on Brodeur for all that went wrong when it was Pronger and Neidermayer who gave the pucks away that caused the first two goals.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I wish they'd broughten Mike Green and that we would probably regret not bringing him.

Not Sure Why everybody Rates Luongo so high though he hasn't won anything yet.
Your just mad that Canada got beaten by the usa. Now uSA beat canada in the juniors and in the olympics! way to go usa!
Do you know what forum trolling is? obviously not.
The second goal was definitely Brodeur´s fault, and the other goals might not have been his fault, but i´m sure Luongo would have gotten three out of the four.

I don´t have anything against Brodeur, and i think he´s a better goalie than Luongo in the Nhl, but he needs time to grow into a team and short tournament like this one isn´t enough time for him. So i believe they should put Luongo in there.
You're logic doesn't make sense though, Brodeur knows how to pull it together for a short tournament, he has back stopped Canada to a Gold Metal after all.
I think Iggy should be captain, It may sound like a fan boy reaction be he is by far the best player after Crosby.
do you really believe that? You think he's way better then Heatley who has had what 3 50 goal seasons and thats just off the top of my head.
Looking pretty good for Canada atm, not so much for russia.
For team Canda as of right now!!!

Yes I do..

This has nothing to do with past seasons this has to do with your hate of anything Calgary Flames.

Take your head out of your ass!!!
Sorry to break it to you but Heatley and San Jose are have much much better seasons then Iginla and the Flames and I hate heatley so don't tell me its anything to do with my personal feelings. I hate Heatley as a person but I still respect his hockey skills. You should stop drinking you're Flames Coolaid and pull you're own head outta you're ass and see the truth with those Flames googles off.
Forget the lines, comparing Stajan and Hagman to Marleau and Thorton is just silly.

PLayer v. PLayer, you have to take Iginla.

Take Iginla if you like, but if you want a player who is more clutch I would take heatley, Iginla is too speradic and for all the talk that he's a great leader his team has been taken out of the playoffs in the 1st rounf for what 4 years in a row now.

If you'd take Heatley as a Captain over Iginla on Team Canada (which the original point was), then you've got issues. There's a reason why Iginla is an alternate captain on Team Canada and Heatley isn't even close to being one.

Heatley might be more productive (ignoring linemates completely), but Iginla is the more complete player, and is more valuable to his team.

Also, Heatley has two 50 goal seasons, not three.
Nobody Said Captain we were talking about Canada's best player, and I wouldn't take Heatley or Iginla as Captain.

Damn Shrek has me on his ignore list big loss there, now I don't have to hear about how great all flames are and how all other players and teams suck in comparison.
Canada's best player is Crosby. Sorry but not only is he the best offensively he does backcheck, he does muck it up along the boards, and he even will drop the gloves, albeit usually with a lightweight, if he thinks it will help his team win.

I believe the question was the better player between Heatley and Iginla. The correct answer is Iginla. The offensive advantage that Heatley enjoys is trumped by the leadership aswell as the defensive and physical play of Iginla.

Dude, you might want to chill with the over the top bias sh!t.

Remember, bash the player, not the poster.
The question was Canada's best player after crosby if you go back and read where this started. Its funny everybody talks about Iginla's great leadership but all I ever see is him lead his team to a 1st round exit in the playoffs year after year, but you're right he is great @ leading that.

Its funny you mentioned Ignla's defensive numbers but they're not that much better, according to Hockey Refeerence Iginla has averaged 1.3 GPGA Heatley is 1.22, so that would mean that heatley is actually better, hmmm.
After Crosby? Thorton, Staal or Getzlaf. Sorry but Iggy and Heatley are still both a step behind.
I never said Heatley was the only one just the first one that poped into my head.
OK.???

So what is your issue in Heatley v. Iginla?

Or the next best player after Crosby?

Whuzzzup man?
all I said is he's one of a number of players on Canada that I think are Better then Iginla that is all. I could have picked 5 others who I believe the same of.
Canadian hockey fans are in deep meditation today. Hoping they won't have to commit mass suicide tomorrow.
Is that how American's felt when they lost the Gold in the summer Olympics in Basket ball?
Nah, nobody really cared. We just waited a few minutes before the next gold medal win was announced...no, but seriously nobody cared.
Guess thats what happens when all the sports you play were created by other countries, lol.
So what does it say about Canada that they've won one Olympic gold medal in the last 50 years? You guys created the game after all.:cheeky4:
untill 16 years ago all our best players were staying in the NHL While Countries like the USSR wouldn't let there players join the NHL until a few started defecting 20 or so years ago. By the time Our best players had started going to the NHL many countries had started to catch up with canada in the skill of there top players though Canada still dominates in the skill and depth, but you can only send one team. In 4 years we might see what it was like before NHL players were sent to the games too.
USA was there because Russia choked!
I wouldn't say that, Russia totally chocked but America had a really good team. and you could Say Canada was there cause Russia chocked not USA.
no your wrong Canada had the best team on paper and Russia was 2nd and USA wasn,t even a favorite! and also it wasn,t the American team it was Miller!
Guess what! papper doesn't win you medals performing does.
