In The Spotlight

G Martin Brodeur

The all-time great is Canada's best bet in net. He's participated in past Olympics and seems to always bring his game to the next level when he's playing for Canada, as evidenced by him being Canada's best player in the 2006 Olympics. He's got a sparkling .920SV% and a 2.15GAA this NHL season.

D Scott Niedermayer

Niedermayer's struggling this season, but after being named Captain of Team Canada, he'll have to step it up. His play will be crucial to puck movement and on the powerplay, expect him to play as a rover, like he does in Anaheim.

C Sidney Crosby

The other generational talent in the Olympics have each other. Sidney Crosby has a backing group of some elite talent. He'll be expected to center the first line and get plenty of powerplay time. These will be his first Olympics and he might be looking to prove something.

I'm disappointed They didn't take green, with all the problems we had scoring in 2006 green should have been on this team.
Why take a flashy defenseman who has not seemed to be able to find his own zone this season and disappeared in the playoffs last year?

I know that is pot calling the kettle Black since I am a Joe Thornton fan(But Thornton has shown himself very able in Team Canada competitions thus far)

The only problem I have with the team is Doughty over Bouwmeester.

We have a terrific offensive rushing Defenseman in Dan Boyle, who also has been great defensively since going to the Sharks. Great duo's like Pronger Niedermayer, who are proven and can play both ends of the ice very well. Pronger can play from the backend and make those passes, while Niedermayer can skate the puck out with the best of them.

The truth is, we do not need Green.
lets face it how else do you win Gold except scoring goals! I know your grinders are important but there is a lot of snipers that are grinders too!
Defense and dedication wins gold my friend. Not flashy guys who pile up points against the bad teams, but get exposed against the good teams. The good two way players are worth more than the one dimensional's like Green.

Green is bad defensively this season. We got guys who are nearly as good as him offensively, but far superior defensively and I am happy.

Bergeron has been better than Savard this year, so I don't know why you bring him up.
okay then just tell the players to be deicated and play defense and don,t worry about scoring goals! because there is 2 players that won,t believe me! my opinion the picks could have been a lot better and the opinion of the hockey world including don cherry!
I will say Team Canada has better picks than USA team! American teams should be thanking are Hockey nation Canada for the Stanley Cup every year haha!
The problem with having a guy like Green on the ice is that the opposing team is going to have a hell of a lot more scoring chances because he gets caught up ice so much and is not all that good in his own end even if he made it back in time. Why have a guy like that when you can have a Dan Boyle, who is nearly as good offensively, but much better defensively? Boyle, paired with a good defensive guy like Doughty, will be far more effective than Green would have been. Boyle is much better at working in team defense situations.

A guy like Green causes more goals against than he helps score against the cream of the crop players. Sure, Green looks great in the regular season popping up his totals against the crap teams who cannot retaliate like an all star squad can. But he gets exposed by real talent.

Pronger/Niedermayer is a proven, excellent pairing, as is Keith/Seabrook. They have chemistry and knowledge of each other's play, which will circumvent the need for them to adapt to a soft rover like Green.

Weber is a good two way guy, tough, and I would take him over Green as well.

Seabrook is the weakest of the lot and the only one I would take Green over, but Seabrook's chemistry with Keith is proven and very effective.

Again, Green would cause more goals against than he would help score. Thus. No, leave him off team Canada
