The Calgary Flames over the past several years have been a veteran team with playoff aspirations in mind. Unfortunately they have failed to qualify for the post season for the last three seasons. With a veteran roster that is fifth highest paid in the league and a bare prospect cupboard, it is time to burn the current franchise down, and build it back up again.

The Flames current General Manager is Jay Feaster. He has just completed his first full season as the Flames GM, and has a Stanley Cup ring from his days with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Assuming ownership has confidence in Feaster, here are some scenarios that may help reinvent the franchise.

I agree that something does have to be done, but to be fair, their prospect cupboard isn't really bare. There's a handful of players that could play in the NHL in some role next season, there's just no prospects that could truly have an impact outside of Bärtschi.

After this "wave" of players, they have several players a few years out that have looked good thus far in their development and a few that have had their development stalled briefly but could rebound.

Good first step by electing to get a new coach. Troy Ward out of Abbotsford would be an excellent selection.
