VANCOUVER (CP) - Jan Bulis scored with a quick shot off a third period face-off Friday night to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 NHL exhibition victory over the Calgary Flames.
Bulis, acquired as a free agent when he was not re-signed by the Montreal Canadiens, found the top corner over goalie Miikka Kiprusoff after a face-off win by Brendan Morrison.
The Canucks had to survive consecutive minor penalties late in the game as the Flames tried to get a tie with Kiprusoff lifted for an extra attacker.
Ryan Kesler and Josh Green scored the other Vancouver goals. Jarome Iginla gave the Flames an early lead and Andrei Zyuzin also counted for Calgary.
The Canucks had lost five of six earlier pre-season games as coach Alain Vigneault experimented with line combinations and auditioned most players in Vancouver's system under game conditions.
