The Boston Bruins announced today that the club has assigned defenceman Mark Stuart and goaltender Hannu Toivonen to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Toivonen will play in Providence's game Sunday afternoon against the Worcester Sharks, and then be recalled to Boston after the game.

Stuart, a second-year player from Rochester, Minnesota and Colorado College, has played seven games for Boston this season, tallying one assist. He spent the beginning of the 2006-07 season rehabbing his knee in Boston with the Bruins training staff before being assigned to Providence in November. Stuart has played four games for Providence this season scoring a goal and registering three assists for four points along with a +6 plus/minus rating.

Last season, in 17 games with Boston, Stuart tallied one goal and one assist for two points and finished with a minus- 1 rating. In addition to his play with Boston, Stuart saw action in 60 games with Providence last season, recording four goals and three assists for seven points and a plus- 4 rating.

Toivonen, in his fourth year with the Bruins organization, has played eight games for Boston this season, posting a record of 2-3-0 and a goals-against average of 4.24.
