Brandon Wheat Kings' Schenn named Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Brayden Schenn of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the Boston Pizza CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 18. Schenn scored one goal and six assists for seven points in two games.

Schenn and the Wheat Kings played back-to-back games against the Prince Albert Raiders beginning Friday night in Brandon. Schenn tallied four assists in the 7-2 win and was named first star of the game. On Saturday in Prince Albert, Schenn led the charge once again for the Wheat Kings with one goal and two assists and was again named first star of the game in the 7-4 win. Schenn also competed in Oshawa at the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game recording an assist for Team Orr in the 6-1 win over Team Cherry Wednesday night.

Schenn, a 17-year-old from Saskatoon, SK, is in his second WHL season with the Wheat Kings where he was named WHL Rookie of the Year last season. Schenn sits 12th in WHL scoring with 19 goals and 37 assists for 56 points in 44 games. He is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and was recently ranked by NHL Central Scouting as the fifth best North American skater.

Brett Parnham of the OHL's Oshawa Generals was also considered for this award for scoring five goals and two assists for seven points in three games including a hat-trick performance Sunday night in a 5-4 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Jan Stransky of the Halifax Mooseheads was the QMJHL nominee this week for scoring four goals and two assists for six points in two games highlighted by a four-point game Sunday in a 6-4 loss to the Moncton Wildcats.
