GAME NOTES: The WHEAT KINGS kick off a weekend home and home series with the visiting REGINA PATS Friday night, hoping to put the brakes to a 6-game winless streak (0-3-2-1)...These two teams will close out this series Saturday night in REGINA before both clubs break for Christmas...BRANDON opens up the second half of the regular season on Wednesday, December 27th against the visiting SASKATOON BLADES...BRANDON hasn't won since December 1st when the WHEAT KINGS edged RED DEER 3-2 to move into fourth place in the Eastern Conference...Entering the final weekend of pre-Christmas play, the W HEAT KINGS lead atop the division is down to two points on SWIFT CURRENT and with Wednesday's win over BRANDON, the PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS moved to within seven points of the WHEATS, with two games in hand...BRANDON currently leads the division with a record of 17-13-2-3, good for 39 points...BRANDON is 11-3-1-2 at the Keystone Centre and 6-10-1-1 on the road...In their last ten games, the WHEAT KINGS are 4-3-2-1 and during the month of December, BRANDON has just one victory (1-3-2-1)...In games against Eastern Division rivals, the WHEATS are 7-5-2-2...The club's current losing streak comes on the heels of a season high 6-game win streak.

BURKI, KOHN AMONG THE CUTS: Center CODEY BURKI and defenceman DUSTIN KOHN were among the cuts Thursday and Friday at the National Junior Selection camp in Calgary...This marked the second time in three years that the National Juniors have released two members of the WHEAT KINGS...In 2004, head coach BRENT SUTTER released RYAN STONE and ERIC FEHR...WJHC begins Boxing Day in Sweden.

VS. REGINA: This is only the second game of the season between these two Eastern Division rivals...In the only game played so far, the PATS came back from a second period deficit to beat the WHEAT KINGS 5-4 in an Overtime Shootout on October 13th...During the 2005-06 season, the WHEATS won five of 9 games between the two...During the past five years, BRANDON has compiled an impressive 19-3-1-1 record against the PATS at the Keystone...During last year's 9-game season series, CODEY BURKI was 3-4-7 while TYLER DITTMER was 3-3-6...Netminder TYLER PLANTE posted a 2.34 goals against average and a .920 save pct. In six appearances.

LAST GAME: PRINCE ALBERT scored goals in each period Wednesday en route to a 3-1 victory over the WHEAT KINGS...BRENT OTTMANN had a goal and an assist to pace the winners while JEFF TOPILKO replied for the WHEAT KINGS, who outshot the RAIDERS 32-30...It marked only the third time this season that the WHEAT KINGS have lost a game in which they outshot the opposition (9-3-0)...BRANDON was 0-6 with the man advantage while managing to kill off 6-7 RAIDER powerplays.

MILESTONES: Netminder TYLER PLANTE recently moved into fourth place on the club's all time list for games played (137) and minutes (7,941)...Captain TEEGAN MOORE has moved into a tie with BRETT THURSTON for eighth place on the club's all time list for games played (292). He's 8 game shy of RANDY PONTE...MOORE is also 6 points shy of the century mark in his career...DUSTIN KOHN is 8 assists from 100...MARK LOUIS is 2 games away from 200 while JEFF TOPILKO is four shy of the 250-game plateau...16-year old COLBY ROBAK scored his first ever WHL goal in MEDICINE HAT on December 3rd.

NUMBERS: CODEY BURKI rejoins the WHEAT KINGS, trailing RED DEER'S MARTIN HANZAL by four points in the WHL scoring race with 21 goals and 50 points...Left-winger MARK DERLAGO is fourth (23-20-43) and is second to LETHBRIDGE'S KRIS HOGG (24) in goals...Slovakian born right-winger JURAJ SIMEK is 12th with 22 goals and 40 points. SIMEK is fourth in rookie scoring but tied for first in goals among first year players...SIMEK is also tied with EVERETT'S KYLE BEACH with 14 powerplay tallies...Before being hurt last week, DUSTIN KOHN had points in six straight games (0-6-6)...KOHN is 6th among WHL blueliners in scoring...JEFF TOPILKO is 6-4-10 in his last 9 games...TYLER PLANTE leads the league with 779 saves, secon d in minutes played (1,634)...THERAN YEO is second in the league with 130 penalty minutes.

DID YOU KNOW? KOHN currently leads the club with a +13 ranking...BRANDON has lost 45 man games to injury...CHAD ERB remains questionable (trapezius)...JURAJ SIMEK leads the team with 4 game winning goals...The last WHEAT KING to play on Canada's National Junior Team was JORDIN TOOTOO...The last BRANDON player to win gold at the WJHC was PETER SCHAEFER of the NHL's OTTAWA SENATORS...BRANDON is second in the WHL when it comes to powerplay (22.6%) and 14th in penalty killing (81%)...Without DUSTIN KOHN in the lineup this season, BRANDON has won just two games...Tonight is also the 10th Annual TEDDY BEAR TOSS, in support of Christmas Cheer. Over 1,200 were collected from the ice last winter and over 10,000 have b een donated since the first.
