(Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high three games, as they welcome the powerful Buffalo Sabres to Scottrade Center tonight.

The Blues have won two straight games following an 11-game losing streak. With another victory, St. Louis will have its first three-game winning streak since February 2-8 of last season.

St. Louis posted its latest triumph over the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Lee Stempniak and Barrett Jackman each had a goal and an assist in the 5-2 win.

The win give new head coach Andy Murray just his second victory as Blues head coach, and it came at the expense of his former club. Murray, who replaced the fired Mike Kitchen earlier this month, coached the Kings for five-plus seasons before being fired with just 12 games remaining in the 2005-2006 season.

David Backes scored his first career NHL goal and Martin Rucinsky and Jay McClement also tallied for the Blues. Manny Legace made 23 saves for St. Louis.

The Sabres are fresh off Thursday's blowout victory in Nashville. Ales Kotalik, Jason Pominville and Maxim Afinogenov recorded two goals each to lead Buffalo to the easy 7-2 win at Gaylord Entertainment Center.
