Blue Jackets' Berard looking at back surgery

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Bryan Berard will visit a specialist to determine a course of action for his ailing back.
The Blue Jackets said Friday that Berard will meet with Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles to explore the potential for surgery.
Berard has not played this season because of the back problem after missing the final 31 games of the 2005-06 campaign for the same reason.
"It is unfortunate that he might have to have another surgery, but we are hoping for a good recovery," said Blue Jackets president and general manager Doug MacLean. "Right now we are unsure on timetables. The most important thing is to get Bryan healthy."
