(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks will aim for their third consecutive victory when they visit the Dallas Stars at AmericanAirlines Center.

The Blackhawks earned a home victory on Wednesday as the edged the Montreal Canadiens, 2-1, in the renewal of an old Original Six rivalry.

Bryan Smolinski scored the winning goal two minutes into the third period.

After taking a centering pass from Tony Salmelainen from behind the net, Smolinski scored with a snap shot from the slot at the two-minute mark of the third to win the game for Chicago, which escaped the final two minutes playing shorthanded.

Martin Havlat scored the other goal for the Blackhawks, while Nikolai Khabibulin made 28 saves in the win.

The Stars are coming off their first setback of the season, a shutout loss to the division rival Sharks. Evgeni Nabokov recorded his second shutout of the young season with 32 saves to lead San Jose to a 2-0 victory over Dallas at the Shark Tank.
