(Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks will try to continue their recent winning ways this evening, when they visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.
The Blackhawks have won back-to-back tests and can match their season-high three-game winning streak with another victory this evening. Chicago won for the fourth time in five games with a 3-0 shutout in Vancouver on Wednesday night.
Chicago's Patrick Lalime picked up his first win in more than a year, turning aside all 34 shots faced en route to posting his 34th career shutout. Lalime, who was signed by Chicago last summer to back up Nikolai Khabibulin, made his first NHL appearance since April 1, 2006, ending his long road back to the NHL after undergoing surgeries on his knee and back.
Lalime became the first goaltender to earn a shutout win in his Blackhawks' debut since Hall-of-Famer Glenn Hall did it back on October 8, 1957. Michael Leighton earned a shutout on January 8, 2003, but that was in a 0-0 tie against Phoenix.
Adrian Aucoin tallied and Radim Vrbata and Martin Havlat each had a goal and an assist for Chicago, which snapped an eight-game skid against the Canucks.
The Blackhawks improved to 3-1-0 on their current seven-game road trip and to 11-13-3 as the visiting club this year.
Meanwhile, the Oilers have struggled so far in February, dropping two of three games to begin the month.
