(Sports Network) - The outlook didn't look so rosy for the Chicago Blackhawks heading into the month of February. The club closed out a forgettable January by losing 10 of its final 11 contests and was about to embark on a season-long seven-game road trip.

Turns out the lengthy journey was just what Denis Savard's squad needed to break out of its funk. Chicago has won three of the first four games of the swing, with the only blemish coming against one of the NHL's top teams, the San Jose Sharks.

The turning point came during the third period of Tuesday's encounter at Calgary, with Martin Havlat providing the needed spark.

The Blackhawks trailed 2-0 before Havlat took over the final three minutes of regulation. The All-Star right wing knocked home two power-play goals, the second coming with just 28 seconds remaining, to send the game into overtime. Havlat didn't stop there, as he netted the first of two Chicago markers during the shootout as the Blackhawks pulled out a thrilling 3-2 victory over a Flames team that has amassed the league's best home record this season.
