The plan all along was to make sure Martin Biron knew how important he can be to the Buffalo Sabres.

In training camp, coach Lindy Ruff spoke of his intention to get Biron as involved as possible. The belief was the more Biron was allowed to contribute, the more he would feel a part of the team and the more he would want to stay - even as Ryan Miller's backup.

Ruff wasted little time giving Biron a start, sending him out Saturday night to face the Ottawa Senators in Scotiabank Place. The veteran goalie, who over the summer publicly pleaded for the Sabres to trade him, stopped 34 shots in an efficient 4-3 triumph.
