I was wondering who you guys think are the best team right now(don't use the records to make your decision)and WHY?

Personally I think Montreal are the best team right now, they play in a good division, and they've won five straight games, and they have one of the best goalies in the NHL in Huet. They have three good lines, and they have the best power play in the league, and there third best in penalty killing. A lot of teams are probably afraid to play this team.

Without records...

I will still say the Sabres b/c they have power and depth. Here is an example:

Drury has the puck and is being attacked he can pass it to...
Briere
Afinogenov
Pominville
Hecht
and that can continue

See Buffalo has so many weapons but if they lose it is for one main reason...POWER PLAYS...They dont capitalize on them a lot now

Montreal for sure at the moment. They have won 5 straight, they offense is playing great, there defence are playing great, Huet is playing unbelivable and wow Carbonneau should have a big shot at being coach of the year. Montreal is playing great, alot better than i ever expected:D Great job Habs keep it up boys!

I think your basing that on favortism. Drury cant pass it to all 4 of those guys because all 5 of those guys wont be on the same line, so maybe he could pass to like briere and aifnogenov and like spacek and campbell or something but not those 4 guys. Thats like me saying McDonald has the puck he can pass to Selanne, Kunitz, Perry, or Penner. It just wont happen on the other hand, I can say McDonald has the puck, he can pass to Selanne, Kunitz, S. Niedermayer, or Pronger which is sick.

Calgary they have one of the best if not the best goalie in the NHL, depth on defence, one of the best forwards in the league in Iginla and with him finally clicking with Tanguay hes been doing awesome.

How can you put sabres ahead of Montreal???
montreal in the past month or two has been one of the most feared teams in the nhl, with Carbonneau coaching the team to perfection. Montreal has been exceeding expectations by having their special teams ranked #1 nhl and also starting to perform on the 5-on-5. Buffalo may have a more skilled and fast team, but Montreal has proven to everyone that they are better by beating them last week. Hence my top-5 is:

1.Ducks
2.Montreal
3.Nashville
4.Buffalo
5.San Jose

Actually no I am not. If he is in trouble those are all the possibilites he could have at once to pass too, which ever best is open

Ducks are no doubt #1 right now. The Sabres were definetly the best near the start but they have been slipping as of late. Montreal having a great season, better than expected. Nashville, as much as i hate them they're are playing great and two small guys with a big heart and lots of talent are leading the way for them. But dont forget teams like San Jose who are a feared team with those 3 incredible players then rookies like bernier, carle. Few years time I bet you they will still beat those young Penguins. Also Calgary definetly has the talent to be a top ranked team and they have been playing pretty well as of late.

My Top 5 as of right now are:

1. Anaheim
2. Nashville
3. Montreal
4. Buffalo
5. San Jose

Notables: Atlanta, Calgary, Dallas, Detroit.

The Ducks are the best hands down. They only have 4 losses and lead the NHL in points. They are in a whole other level then all of the NHL teams right now. Don't see any1 catching up unless they run into injuries.:D

I would love for Montreal to play the Ducks because I believe we would have a fair chance to beat them, yes they have great players, but so do we, we have the best powerplay in the league, and we're third in penalty killing. Also I don't agree with you saying that Nashville are better then MTL right now, don't get me wrong they have a good record, but there also in one of the easiest division in the NHL.

Side Note: I agree Carbonneau is up there for coach of the year right now. Hopefully they'll keep it up.

Calgary is just like another team in the west.

Then your notables should be: Minnesota,Edmonton,Calgary,Colorado

^^All pretty much in the same boat and all will be in contention for that 6-8th spot unless one can steal the division.

1)Anaheim (They will be this years neutral zone trap victim)
2)Buffalo (Another potential neutral zone trap victim)

I thinks its a good list, Montreal definetly has to be there though. I dont think Detroit has been playing very well lately so i dont thin they should be there, but I like your choice of Chicago. They are getting alot better and could be in playoff contention
