CALGARY (CP) - Even after notching a pre-season hat trick, Steve Bernier remained humble about his chances to be an impact player with the San Jose Sharks this season.

"You never know, so that's why it's important to score goals," said Bernier after a three-goal performance in San Jose's 6-3 win over the Calgary Flames Wednesday night.

Bernier was pleased with his performance playing on a line with Patrick Marleau and Milan Michalek

"It's always fun to score in the pre-season," said the six-foot-two, 230-pound right winger who had 14 goals and 13 assists in 39 games with the Sharks last season.

"The real season is coming in eight days right now. I just want to get ready for the season. We don't know who's going to make the team right now, so I just play the game right now to try and win a spot with the San Jose Sharks."

That Bernier guy is going to be great. You can just see it. A Power Forward in the making.

Calgary and San Jose both look like they'll be the tougher teams in the West. I wish I saw the game. Sounds like it was great.
