South Florida was intended to be a sun-splashed refuge for veterans Ed Belfour and Todd Bertuzzi, a place where their respective careers might be revived.

So far so good for Bertuzzi, who racked up four points in his regular-season debut for the Florida Panthers, an 8-3 victory over the Boston Bruins Thursday.

For Belfour, however, it was an entirely different story.

Attempting to rebound from his second back surgery in 18 months, the Eagle's first meaningful game for the Panthers wasn't memorable.

Making his first regular-season start between the pipes for the Panthers, a creaky Belfour allowed four goals on nine shots before being yanked just 6:45 into the second period of Florida's embarrassing 6-0 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers Saturday night.
