Much has been anticipated from defenseman Cam Barker since the Chicago Blackhawks selected him third overall in the 2004 Entry Draft. Injuries and inexperience have slowed his progress, but after being recalled from the AHL Sunday, the big defenseman was quite impressive in a 4-3 loss to the Wild, where he scored on the power-play, played 22 minutes and was a plus-1.

"He's got lots of poise and is going to be a good player," Hawks coach Denis Savard told Tim Sassone of the Arlington Heights Daily Herald Times. "We'll play it by ear, but if he continues to play like he did tonight, of course he'll be here. I liked the way he played with lots of composure and lots of poise. He was pretty good."

Especially on the power play, where the Hawks want him to take charge.

"That's one of my strengths and something I've always done on every team I ever played on," the 20-year-old Barker said. "It's something they've kind of counted on me to do, and it's what I want to do here."
