Andrew Loewen of Winnipeg, a freshman goaltender with Canisius, stopped a school-record 61 shots in a 3-1 loss to No. 9 Miami in his college debut last Saturday. Loewen blocked 28 shots in the second period, which topped the school record of 24 set in February 2000.
Chris Risi of Thorold, Ont., a freshman forward at Mercyhurst, scored his first collegiate goal and registered his first assist in a 5-4 loss to Ferris State on Saturday.
Jocelyn Guimond of Quebec, a junior goaltender at Rochester Institute of Technology, made 47 saves, allowing just two power-play goals, in a 2-2 tie with Union College. RIT sophomore forward Steve Pinizzotto of Mississauga scored the Tigers' first goal and assisted on freshman forward and Burnaby, B.C., native Al Mazur's first collegiate goal in the second.
