While the QMJHL’s overall attendance numbers are down slightly from last year, a 2-percent drop from this time last year, Quebec is doing brisk business at the box office. The Remparts have drawn more than 10,000 fans on six different occasions and are on pace to break the single-season attendance record of 308,616 fans established by the 1971-72 edition of the Remparts.

RDS announced its mid-season rookie excellence awards, picking a standout player from each team. Here are the winners: Tomy Joly (Acadie-Bathurst); Mathieu Tousignant (Baie-Comeau); Mark Barberio (Cape Breton); Derek Famulare (Chicoutimi); Marc-Olivier Vachon (Drummondville); Steven Delisle (Gatineau); Jakub Voracek (Halifax); David Perron (Lewiston); Randy Cameron (Moncton); Jordon Southorn (PEI); Ruslan Bashkirov (Quebec); Michael Frolik (Rimouski); Marc-André Bourdon (Rouyn-Noranda); Chris Didomenico (St. John); Simon Lacroix (Shawinigan); Mario Kempe (St. John’s); Raffaele D’Orso (Val D’or); and Kevin Poulin (Victoriaville).

Perron was a late addition to the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday, replacing injured Rimouski star Maxime Tanguay. Rimouski’s Olivier Fortier will also miss the game because of injury.

Victoriaville forward Benoit Doucet was named Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 14. Gatineau defenseman Martin Frechette was named Defensive Player of the Week. Cape Breton’s Cam Fergus, Victoriaville’s Morten Madsen and Acadie-Bathurst’s Thomas Beauregard were also considered for Offensive Player of the Week honors. On the Defensive side, Val D’Or goalie Jeremy Duchesne, Lewiston goalie Peter Delmas and Victoriaville defenseman Maxim Noreau also earned attention.
