Coming off a career offensive year on the ice, Chicago Blackhawks forward Kyle Calder also scored off it thanks to an NHL arbitrator, who awarded him a one-year, $2.95-million contract for the 2006-07 campaign.

Calder led Chicago in goals (26) and points (59) –- both of which also were personal bests for the 27-year–old -- while earning $1.3 million last season. The Blackhawks have until 48 hours after their final arbitration hearing (Jim Vandermeer on July 28th) to decide whether they will accept the arbitrator's verdict.

If the team chooses to reject the decision, the fifth-round pick (130th overall) in the 1997 draft immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent.
