A friend of mine is taking up hockey for the first time. He's adult aged, so he can't join a youth league and have practices and all that. The league he wants to play in is for beginners, but they just play games.

Are there any videos out there that show you the basics? Stickhandling, shooting, skating techniques (crossing over, stopping, etc.)? There is very little hockey where he lives and doesn't have much to go on. But, if he can find a video or two that would probably help him on his way.

www.planethockey.com has a couple of videos. I know they run a good camp, I suspect their videos are pretty good as well. Someone also recommended http://www.championshipproductions.com to me in the past. They have a huge selection there. If you don't mind a shameless plug, my book is geared toward new players who are a little past their shot at the NHL as well.

Check out the site of http://www.rickheinz.com. It can provide you some basic details of hockey. Besides that, you can find a lot of training schedules from their site. I have attended their hockey summer camp conducted in last year. I have also attended other camps besides these in the past but for many reasons this one was far superior. I hope it will help you too.
