Alfredsson shelved pending test results
Senators captain may have injured hip once again

WASHINGTON - Daniel Alfredsson won't know the extent of the injury he suffered Tuesday night until he meets with team doctors in Ottawa today.
Alfredsson, who limped to the bench in the third period of the Senators' 4-2 win over the New York Islanders and then gingerly skated off the ice, didn't play last night as the Senators concluded their two-game road trip against the Washington Capitals.
While the Senators have officially called it a "lower body" injury, it's believed he injured a hip muscle, a spot where Alfredsson has had problems before. Alfredsson has previously suffered hip injuries during the 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
The early indications are that he could be out of the lineup for at least seven to 10 days, but he's expected to have an magnetic resonance imaging exam conducted today. Results probably won't be known until tomorrow.
"The doctors will test it out, to see more about what it is exactly," Alfredsson said yesterday. "It feels the same as it did (after the game) -- not any worse, not any better."
The injury comes just as Alfredsson was finding chemistry on a line with centre Antoine Vermette and left-winger Peter Schaefer, a unit that was taking pressure off the top scoring duo of Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley.
"The line was getting better and better, but there's never a good time to get an injury," Alfredsson said.
The injury forced coach Bryan Murray into some roster shuffling for last night's game. Right-winger Patrick Eaves, who had been playing on a line with Mike Fisher and Chris Neil, started last night's game on the unit with Vermette and Schaefer.
Dean McAmmond, who had been playing centre on a fourth line with Denis Hamel and Brian McGrattan, took Eaves' spot with Fisher and Neil.
Danny Bois, called up from Binghamton of the American Hockey League yesterday, played with Hamel and McGrattan.
"It looks like it's going to be a little bit of time, anyway," Murray said of Alfredsson's injury. "He's a skilled guy and he has the puck a lot, and the other guys (Schaefer and Vermette) have benefited from his ability. It's a setback."
Murray says the Senators recalled Bois because Binghamton coach Dave Cameron says he was the most deserving minor-league forward.
